What is a low recoil shotshells?

Generally the low recoil shot holds a smaller powder charge. This does mean lower velocity yes. The power of the shell is measured in DRAMS. This is a pretty outdated system of measure of the amount of powder in the shell and is generally not shown on the box of shells anymore unless you are buying premium ammo. Buck shot consists of larger heavier steel, lead, or copper , while bird shot contains many more smaller if not tiny pellets (smaller than the standard bb gun BB). The kick of the shotgun depends upon the guage of the shotgun, the dram rating, the length of the shell, and the size of the shot. For instance a 3inch 12 guage 0/0 buck shot will have a hell of a lot more kick than a 2 3/4 inch 12 guage #8 shot. Generally for skeet shooting you will be using a 12 guage chambered for a 2 3/4 inch shell length. Your best choice would be #7, 7 1/2, or 8 for skeet. These have very low recoil in comparison to larger loads. Walmart has a special on 100 rounds of i think its in 8 or 7 1/2 shot for 20 dollars! This is what I use for skeet. Just remember the bigger the shot number, the smaller and greater number of pellets, and larger spread.
