Should I join the Navy or the Army?

The Navy is where you want to be if you are looking for excellent technical training that you can apply in the civilian world. The Navy's jobs are known as rates and one you earn your rate that is what you will do for your entire career unless you elect to change rates. To earn a rate you go to A-school and then after you finish that you will either have additional advanced C-schools to attend or on the job training on board a ship in most cases. If you are interested in computer hardware and microelectronics you may want to check out the rates ET, FC, and AT. AT and ET are electronics technician jobs, AT being the aviation version. FC's are fire controlmen and they are responsible for the ships weapon systems which are mostly computerized. If you are into software there isn't really a lot there for you. Perhaps one of the CT ratings (cryptologic technician) would suit you. On the network side we have IT (information systems technician) and IC (internal communications systems technician). There may be other rates I can't think of at the moment as well.
