Is it safe to buy RAM on ebay/online?

I want to buy 3 more gigs of DDR2 PC2-5300 for my macbook, and i found some pretty good prices for 2x 2gigs but im not sure if they are going to work good or not. Is it possible to get bad ram? Thanks for the help.
