Drawbacks of iPhone with T-mobile?

So, I'm pretty sure that the iPhone is for AT&T, but I heard that you can change it to T-mobile. How can you do this, exactly? Also, I heard that if it is ran with T-mobile, then some problems would occur. What are these problems, specifically?
