Diablo 2 wont work on my laptop?

I've installed the same version of d2 thats on my computer onto my laptop and I keep getting this message, "battle.net is unable to properly identify your application version" when I try to play on my laptop, I am not running diablo 2 on my computer and my diablo 2 has the latest patch and single player still works.
