3 year old not understanding "why" questions?

3 yr olds do not understand WHY.. to them you are basically speaking a foreign language. They understand how to use the word "why" to get answers they are seeking - but asking them questions like "why did you do that" is like asking him why the world is round- It's just beyond his comprehension at that age. Give it time- try to keep commands short & simple for him & do not expect him to know how to respond to adult questions- that will all come in it's own time.
