Why wont civilization 4 not work on my computer?

i just bought civ 4 and i put it in the cd tray closeed it and bothing happened. nothing pops up it doesnt say error occured nothing it just stays blank. ive tried redoing it,going into my computer nothing workd. how do i fix this?
