Why does it seem like parents today dont discipline their children?

i mean i not saying hit the child but im sure if they do something wrong and you beat them they wouldnt do it again. i mean im scared to do something bad cause i know if my parents find out im going to get beat less kids would do bad things if their was repercussions right ?
