What type of woman should I consider dating?

My wife died of cancer about a year ago. My friends and family have been asking me about when I would consider dating again. I believe I am ready. I am 47 and my wife was 4 years older than I am. We did not have any children. I am wondering how I can go about seeking a mate for friendship, dating, falling in love, LTR , marriage and children. I was an only child, so I am seeking to have more than one child as a father. As this is a question, I don't want to list my interests, describe myself. I have joined Plenty of Fish which is free as one source. I really don't think singles bars and clubs are a good place for me to meet women. Any suggestions on where to meet women and whatever suggestions would be appreciated.
