What is wrong with my m cane/corn plant? wilting, white leaves?

I just bought a m cane at a local store. I brought it home and re potted it then watered it. I didn't have any extras soil so it was a little on the loose side. The next day the leaves started to turn white at the base of them and is moving outward toward the tip of the leaves also the leaves are wilting very badly. What could be happening?
