What can i do for my dog to help his coat/skin? Food besides dog food and a cheaper shampoo or conditioner?

What shampoo was it? The majority of shampoos the vet sells can be bought retail & usually for much cheaper. There also might be similar shampoo that isn't needed at a lower strength. I don't suggest using conditioner any longer. It can change the dog normal ph level of their skin & coat, cause pimples & end up drying out the coat.
