Venom - Not Black Metal!??!?

Most people I know refer to bands like Mayhem or Bathory as Nowergian Black Metal. I think this isn't more common because people think it means a band is from Norway, even though it could just refer to the origin of the sound. I agree though to say a band that first coined the name of a genre is not that genre, is completely ludacris.
