You can use the bell method. Hang a bell on the handle of the door you exit to take him to potty. Each time you go out to potty, ring the bell. After the first couple of times, encourage him to ring it and go out immediately after he does. In this way he can learn to ociate ringing the bell with going out to potty and will start to ring the bell when he needs to go out.
