Is it possible to be allergic to cashews, but not be allergic to nuts?

My husband thinks my son reacted to cashews, and so he doesn't want to give him any more just in case. I'm wondering if this is possible? He's had nuts many times without issues. He's even had cashews before, so I'm not sure.
