Is cello or violin easier to learn for someone with no previous instrument experience?

I want to learn to play an instrument, preferable a string instrument. I love the sounds of cellos and violins and want to learn to play one or the other. Does anyone have experience with either or both? Which would be easier for someone with no previous musical experience to learn?
