If I dropped some guys motorcycle, and am unlicensed and uninsured, am I obligated to pay for damages legally?

I was riding it and it slipped on some rocks, ended up cracking the plastic and a few other things but totaled up to $1000 in new parts somehow. I know morally I should probably pay this guy to fix the bike but he's a total prick about the whole thing, So if I were to blow him off can he go after me in court?
