How did life come to existence...?

I understand that humanity evolved from primates, but what about life itself? Where did the primates come from or the creatures prior to that? It's really astonishing when you think about it... Some kind of way, life came to Earth through a single-cell organism... Well I'm no scientist, nor do I study science, but I do desire to become savvy with this if anyone can help.
