Has anyone used Cucusoft DVD converter?

I had asked for recommendations for software that would convert encoded DVDs to iPod, and someone had recommended Cucusoft because it was so easy and fast. Well, I downloaded the free trial and yes, it is easy and worked on copyrighted DVDs, but I don't see how it is so fast. I had to let the entire DVD play for it to convert. Am I doing something wrong or missing a convenient option to byp this? Thanks!
