Guy says that he is in love with you but...?

My friend, who is 19 years old has been seeing and being intimate with an older man (37), whom she's known for eight years now, but they started becoming intimate when she turned 18. They had to sneak around: He's NEVER introduced her to his family, but he's seen her father and met him before, but he knows him as her instructor. (yes, I know)..They fell in love and he truly loves being with her and being intimate wih her. Then, came times where he would send her mixed messages: He would be busy or say things out of jealousy, or say that she should get another man, because he's an old fart..blah blah blah...She would still make love to him and make herself vulnerable basically because the love is so intense...He says that she's beautiful, smart and loves everything about her...There were times when she would get mad at him for not picking up his phone and some suspicious story about him having s%&Ex with another one of her friends who had a crush on him..Anyway, Then one day, after a year past, (from 2007-2008) they were speaking about single mothers and randomly he said, "Oh, I know this woman, who had a husband who treated her badly and she is pregnant and I'm thinking of marrying her and adopting the baby..." My friend just said oh really, but inside she was screaming and crying..she felt like she was just being used and he was taking advantage and couldn't help himself..." He asks my friend, "Should I adopt her?" And this is while they're going to his place to chill and possibly "flirt, etc." He said that he is in love with her..but now like now..the situation is different..he isn't intimate with her, but they have a child together or maybe it is his..pictures of them up on the walls, kitchen..and my friend has had a hard time accepting this, but he says that he is in love with my friend and he wanted a family and that she can't do anything, she's too young...but they still see each other, they've NEVER BEEN out to a nice restaurant together or to the movies, just sheltered in his home and then she leaves at a certain time before THE OTHER woman comes back...She goes back home to mom dad and life goes on like this about twice, three times, once or every other month..they talk on the phone..he's busy at times, of course...but she has doubts that he really loves her and it's hard for at times...What is he about? Do you think that he really does love her and that he was trying to not ruin her life by getting her pregnant, but still should've waited until she finished college to have a family and not impregnant someone else?
