Getting vista back on my laptop?

i just tried to dograde to windows xp professional from vista, and well, it basically messed up a bunch of my hardware. is there any way i could get vista back without having to go out and buyin the damn $150 os from a store or anything like that, im not too keen on downloading a torrent or anything either.
