Are there still people, that go out in the rain forest, woods, etc. and cut down trees and take animals?!?

Its 2009, do people still get caught doing that (or wait is it legal now to do that because Obama allowed it [nts nts]) do people still cut down trees and use that for lumber? Do people still kill, abuse, test, etc. endangered[or atleast soon to be] animals?!
