Alpha Mare problems...?

My mare is alpha in her herd. But she keeps hurting herself going after other horses. ONe day she ran through a fence after another mare and scd her knee up and today she went after a newcomer in her pasture and fell, so she is stiff and limping. Is there any way I can make her nicer, or stop her from trying to always be at the top of the pack? Thanks.
